WHO ARE WE?
ABOUT JOHN AND MINT BUILD
My name is John White. I have been a builder for over 30 years, working in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, as well as up and down the UK.
I have built up a wealth of knowledge over the years, working on new builds as well as renovations and restorations of old buildings in conservation areas.
My introduction into the industry was at 15 years old. My work experience as a builder led the way to a full Apprenticeship with the Sheffield City Council in Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery (NVQ Levels 1, 2, and 3). During this time, I also gained a BTEC National Certificate in Construction Science, Construction Technology, Site Surveying and Levelling.
In 2002 I left to start my own business – that's when Mint Build was established.

HOW LONG WILL
MY PROJECT TAKE?
Every build is different, but here's a realistic guide to help you plan ahead. A single-storey rear extension typically runs 10–14 weeks from groundworks to handover. Loft conversions usually fall in the 8–12 week range — a dormer will take longer than a Velux conversion. Garage conversions and full renovations generally sit between 6–10 weeks. These timelines assume planning and building regulations are in order beforehand, something our Sheffield team will help you navigate from day one. In older properties especially, it's wise to build in a little flexibility — what's behind a wall isn't always what you'd expect, and experience is knowing how to deal with it without derailing the job.

Materials are stored tidily, work areas are separated from the rest of your home, and the site is cleaned down at the end of every working day. If something unexpected comes up, as it occasionally does in older Sheffield homes, we'll walk you through the options clearly and honestly before anything additional is agreed.
